Third-graders in Nicole McDonough’s class at Clara H. Carlson have become familiar with the Kahoot! app and website this school year.
Ms. McDonough utilizes Kahoot! to reinforce lessons or to review material for upcoming tests and quizzes. Recently, students in the class logged in to the app using their tablets to review material from the Go Math! curriculum, specifically rounding and estimating.
The students accessed the quiz by typing in the “game code” displayed on the smartboard and used their classroom number as identification for anonymity. The smartboard then displayed 12 questions, one at a time, all dealing with rounding and estimating. Students were enthusiastic as they selected one of four multiple choice answers that were linked to a specific shape and color. Within 30 seconds of making a choice, the correct answer appeared on the screen of their tablets. At the end of the lesson, the class and teacher can see the percentage of students who answered the questions correctly.
“I have been using Kahoot! regularly in my classroom and have found that student engagement, motivation and participation are at an all-time high when utilizing this resource,” McDonough said.
Clara H. Carlson third-grader Summer Sanders thought carefully about her answer before entering it into Kahoot!.
2. Clara H. Carlson School student Tyler Stephenson was excited as he looked at the class’ results.
3. Clara H. Carlson School student Adrianna Gutierrez explained her math answer to Assistant Principal Richard Mansfield.
